Roulette Betting Types
Betting is the most fundamental aspect of the game of roulette, yet many people seem quite content to simply let its specialist terms and their meanings continue to wash over them.
The strange thing about this kind of behaviour is that the roulette betting terminology really is not very complicated at all.
There are two basic kinds of roulette betting categories, which are based on the betting area chosen. These are 'inside' bets and 'outside' bets.
Inside bet refers to a bet on the numbers, due to the fact that the inside betting area has the numbers in it.
Outside bets refers to a bit on the boxes, as the the outside betting area is used for the boxes which represent the columns, colours and numbers of groups available.
In total, there are 11 different kind of bets that can be made in the game of roulette, however, all of these come under the aforementioned two basic categories.
There are six different types of inside roulette bets:
The straight up bet – this bet is simply a bit on just one number, with payout odds of 35 to 1.
The split bet – this is a bet made on two adjoining numbers and as you might expect, it has half the payout odds of a straight up bet, coming in at 17 to 1.
The street bet – this covers three numbers on one horizontal line.
The corner (square) bet – covers four numbers which are combined to form the square layout.
The six line bet – this covers numbers in two rows, one below another.
The trio bet - this bet covers the point of intersection between three numbers.
Payouts for inside bets are higher due to their difficult odds, outside bets payout less but are more likely occurrences. Most of the outside bets are fairly implicit; 1-19, 19-36, red or black and even or odd.
The remaining outside bets are the dozen bet, which covers numbers in groups of twelves (1-12, 13-24 etc), and finally, column bets cover all the 12 numbers in a column.
